It’s not every father that shows up as “Dad” for his children. Looking around online for quotes about fathers it’s surprisingly common to find quotes about missed fathers, absent fathers, or emotionally unavailable fathers. The negativity surrounding fathers was much more apparent than any I saw about mothers doing this same exercise for Mother’s Day. As I looked further and further into books and quotations about fathers I realized that so many people expressed their love for men who stepped up to be their Dad when a biological father was absent. My own Dad is the kind of man that shows up for children that aren’t his own, even to the point of walking a young woman down the aisle on her wedding day who isn’t my sister or step-sister – just someone whose own father was not there for her. I’m blessed to have my Dad to look up to, but my hope is that as you read through these Father’s Day quotes you remember the men in your lives that do the right thing, are there as supportive cheerleaders, and take care of you when you need a strong shoulder to lean on – whether those men are fathers or not.
